lost like Xanadu

At 2:30 this morning, when I was cleaning the puke up out of my daughter's bed, I had a great idea for a post. Not a post about vomit, a post about something interesting. Then I was fortunate enough to go back to sleep, and didn't write it down first. So you're stuck with this mess.

DH and I had the conversation that I hate this morning about whether she was sick enough to stay home from school, and if so, who was going to stay with her. Usually, this isn't really a problem. We tend to switch on and off on days home from school, and he did it last time there was a sick kid, but hell, I was unemployed for three months, and he never had to stay home with a sick kid then. So today turned into a kind of whining session about who had more important things scheduled, and who couldn't afford to take a day off because of their many important projects. (I should clarify--we never have this conversation in front of the sick child, lest s/he feel like we are both not wanting to stay home with him/her.)

Needless to say, I lost, largely on the precedent of him doing it last.

But I have my revenge, as my boss just emailed to tell me that he wants me to go to California in April. I'd almost be excited, if it weren't for the fact that I will spend the whole time there in meeting hell. But still, if there is call for some 2 a.m. puke cleanup, I won't be doing it.

oh yeah, I know that situation. My wife cannot miss work so I am the one who has to do the calculating. It is tough especially when it's hectic and I have a lot I have to get done. Today Bk wasn't sick, just a hurt foot, so I brought him in with me. But a few times I've been really tempted to send him to school sick; of course I never do it but it's tempting sometimes...

Yeah, I really toyed with the idea of sending her to school, since she wasn't acting that sick in the morning. But as it turned out, she took a three-hour long nap in the middle of the day (a fairly unprecedented occurrence), so I know she really was sick (and I got some work done after all). But I missed an important training that I was supposed to go to, and now I have to figure out how to learn the stuff I needed to learn there.

Where do you live? I think our kids have the same bug- the Cutie Pie has been home for the last 2 days. I ALWAYS get stuck with sick kid because my husband leaves the house at 5 am and because I work out of my house part-time. I have the "less important" (eg, pays less) job, so it falls to me. But the Man doesn't seem to understand that I get paid by the hour, so if I miss a day, that's major moula.

A few weeks ago we had a delayed opening at school but I HAD to go to a meeting, so my husband stayed the Cutie Pie until school started. You'd think he was doing us the biggest favor in the world. LOL. But he's cute, so I'll keep him around.

I live in the great Northeastern part of the US. While I work at home, I don't have the "less important" job (we're paid about equally). The thing is, yesterday I had actual meetings. Outside of the home. To talk with other adults face-to-face, not just on the phone or through email.

And while his meetings were more important than mine on this particular day, my sanity is more important (to me, anyway). And, oh yeah, one of the things I was supposed to do was look at office space, so that I don't have to work out of my house forever. Sigh.
